The Huawei Mate 40 series is launching on October 22
So here’s some news that you’ve already heard: Huawei is preparing to launch new flagship smartphones, and they will be called the Huawei Mate 40 series. We also know the United States is giving Huawei a very hard time, meaning that this might very well be the last “normal” Huawei smartphone as the company keeps looking for new ways to dodge sanctions and reinvent themselves. Despite this, though, the launch is going forward and we’ll see the devices launch to the market. When, exactly? Huawei has both confirmed the name of the lineup, Huawei Mate 40 series, and announced an event for the devices on October 22nd, when they’ll talk a bit more in-depth about the phones and what they will be packing.
Unprecedented Power is coming.

Let’s rewind a bit to see what we’re expecting to see in these events. Both the Huawei Mate 40 and the Huawei Mate 40 Pro are expected to be announced during the event. Both phones will be powered by the rumored Kirin 9000 SoC, which will be fabricated in a 5nm process and might be the last Kirin processor as we know them due to U.S. sanctions barring TSMC from shipping chipsets to Huawei without a license. Both phones will have awesome cameras — according to some rumors floating around, they’ll have 50MP rear cameras and, in the case of the Mate 40 Pro, an 80MP ultra-wide camera. They’ll sport a design quite similar to the Mate 30 from the back, with a massive circular camera bump on the back housing, with the added difference that it’s much more massive than its predecessor’s camera.
The event will be revolving around the company’s new smartphone offerings, so it’s unlikely that anything else will be announced. So if you’re excited to see these devices, then go ahead and save the date: it’s on October 22nd, and it will be an online event.
